NGTs, EUROPEAN COMMISSION CALLS FOR EVIDENCE NOW OPEN: CONTRIBUTIONS BY SEPTEMBER 28
Following the approval of the EU Regulation on plants obtained through New Genomic Techniques (NGTs), the European Commission is working on the documents that will define some of its technical and procedural aspects. As part of this process, it has launched two Calls for Evidence, with the aim of gathering contributions and evidence useful for defining future implementing rules. The consultation is open until September 28, 2026 .
The two Calls for Evidence concern the two categories of NGTs plants provided for by the new European Regulation. The first, dedicated to Category 1 plants , seeks input on the information required and the procedures for verifying their inclusion in this category. The second, dedicated to Category 2 plants, concerns the procedures for their evaluation and authorization. The input gathered will help the Commission define the rules for the concrete implementation of the new European framework.
The Commission invites participation in the Calls for Evidence and, in particular, encourages the sharing of scientific knowledge, analyses, data, and concrete examples that can contribute to the definition of implementing measures. The Calls for Evidence are open to citizens, associations, businesses, researchers, and all stakeholders interested in taking advantage of this opportunity to participate , providing the European Commission with their views on the future framework for implementing the NGTs.
How to participate
To submit your contribution, you need to access and log in to the European Commission's "Have Your Say" portal.
Contributions can be submitted in Italian by September 28th, up to a maximum of 4,000 characters . Documents, studies, or other supporting materials may also be attached, up to 5 MB in size.
